Our History

The Renmore Residents’ Association was established in 1959 and later merged with the Renmore Park Residents’ Association in the early 1960s to form the combined Association that exists today. From its earliest beginnings, it formed a strong bond with the local authorities in Galway, laying the foundations of a good working relationship. Throughout the decades, this arrangement has yielded many worthwhile and tangible benefits to the area. Historically, Galway City Council also benefited from this symbiosis, launching some major initiatives with Renmore as a pilot site.
This was best demonstrated in the 1990s when, with the support of the council, the Association launched a successful anti-litter campaign. Later, Galway City Council approached the Renmore Residents’ Association to pilot a new recyclying initiative in Renmore. The proposal was embraced by the Association, leading to the successul introduction of the concept in Renmore, and later throughout the city.
The Association performed well over the years in Tidy Town competitions, securing many prestigious prizes for the area including twice taking the overall Tidiest District in Ireland Award. In 2008, Renmore won the Pride of Place award, in recognition of the dedicated work involved in making an area and a community work together. The award was presented to Norbert Sheerin of the Renmore Residents’ Association committee by President Mary McAleese at a ceremony in Waterford on 8 November 2008, in the presence of Cllr. Padraic Conneely, Mayor of Galway and Mary O’Leary of Galway City Council.
In celebration of the Pride of Place award, and to endeavour to protect the green spaces in the centre of Renmore for public recreational use, the Association secured recognition of the spaces as a named park. Nolan Park was officially named at a ceremony on 22 May 2010.
The significant contribution of the Association to the community over the years is a testament to the vision and dedication of its various committees and their efforts to make Renmore a great place to live.
The Current Committee

The current committee was formed in April 2025. Chairperson Dee McFadden took over the reins from former chair Michael Duffy and his dedicated committee, whose longstanding service to Renmore deserves sincere recognition.
Drawing on the impressive work of previous committees over the decades, the current team of volunteers is committed to representing and supporting the Renmore community, working to improve the physical, social and environmental wellbeing of the area. We aim to achieve this by engaging with residents and collaborating with Galway City Council and local councillors to maintain and enhance the neighbourhood. The Association is a member of the Galway City Community Network (GCCN), our local public participation network, allowing us to remain engaged with the wider network of community groups in the city.
As well as holding regular meetings to update and engage with local residents on our activities, and running various events throughout the year, we aim to stay connected and reach our neighbours with news and information relevant to the Association and the local area. To this end, we maintain active social media pages and two WhatsApp groups – an RRA Group for Association updates, and a Community Noticeboard Group for more general local information, including items lost and found. Please get in touch by e-mail if you would like to be added to either group.
Meetings & Activities
The Renmore Residents’ Association committee meets monthly to discuss ongoing projects and initiatives and any issues relevant to the local area. Additionally, public meetings are held at least twice a year to engage with residents and present updates.
The Association also runs various events and activities throughout the year, including neighbourhood cleans, beach cleans, dry stone wall building, local history tours and wildlife talks and presentations. The first annual RRA Table Quiz was held in Flannery’s Hotel in November 2025, and was a great success. Details of upcoming events will be shared on this website, on our social media pages and in our WhatsApp groups. Larger events may also be publicised using posters and flyers in the local area, and in the Renmore Notes section of the Tribune.
